Heading to Summer Camp
Like thousands of kids heading into the summer, camp is a right of passage. I went when I was in school and my kids will be attending their first camp in the coming weeks! We are already prepping for their short stay and purchasing all the necessities! It is safe to say that the little one is the most excited about this and has been prancing around the house with her suitcases for weeks.
As a planner, I like to make sure that my family is prepared for anything that will happen. I am that person that has first aid kits everywhere and has a purse full of whatever you need. Prepping my children for summer camp is no different, and we are not just packing the typical items. Check out our packing list below.
Summer Camp Packing List
Whether your kid is going for a short overnight camp stay or a few weeks, making sure that your child has everything they need while they are away to help them both feel comfortable and address any needs that come up is very important. Of course the essentials are always on the list, but there are a few things most parents forget when packing for summer camp.
- Clothing (All weather too, even if the weather app says it will be warm, throw in a warm outfit or two)
- At least 2 pairs of sneakers and a pair of sandals.
- Reusable Water Bottle
- Bug Bite cream and bandaids to keep the itch away
- Pillow and sleeping bag
- Favorite lovey
- Battery operated fan (extra batteries too)
- Flashlight or headlamp
- Books, cards and mini board games for down time
- Dry bag
- Notes from home and even self-addressed stamped envelopes and stationary for them to write home too
You see that last bullet point on the packing list? Yeah, Licefreee! is a must have for summer camp. Let’s face it. Lice doesn’t take a summer break and when kids get together, something is bound to spread and sometimes that something is head lice. I absolutely want my kids to have that treated immediately and I turn to the brand with amazing reviews.
Licefreee! is the best over-the-counter lice treatment that has been around for over 20 years. What I love most about Licefreee! is that it is NON-TOXIC and are free of pyrethrum and permethrin (synthetic insecticide). They have a good selection of products and they are effective, gentle and come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Talk To Your Kids About Lice
As parents we definitely want to avoid this little buggy nuisance, but realistically we need to be prepared and part of that preparation is talking to our kids about lice and how to lessen the chances of coming in contact with it. I am no stranger to this as my son’s classroom had an infestation last year and that put this mama into lice avoidance mode. One of the biggest things that helped keep my household clear of lice was having a clear discussion with my children.
It is important that you let your kids know what lice are, how they are transferred and how they are treated if they come into contact with them. My kids are fully aware that they should NOT share hats, pillows, combs/brushes, hair accessories and if they are away at camp, not to share bunks. We also make sure that we do lice checks regularly and that my kids understand that there is no shame or blame if for some reason they do get lice. We will treat it with Licefreee! and move through the process.
