Over 6 months ago, I began the process of laser hair removal. As I near the end of my treatments, here are the things I wish I knew before laser hair removal.
Disclosure: I am partnering with Milan Laser Hair Removal. All opinions are my own.
My Laser Hair Removal Journey
Laser hair removal was something I was pretty interested in from its inception. As a woman that is pretty low maintenance, shaving is not something that I enjoy at all. When I was offered the experience to have an area of my body lasered, I jumped at it. I began the process by first having a consultation to learn about everything that was in store for me.
I headed straight to Milan Laser Hair Removal and was walked through the entire procedure and treatment plan. They explained the science behind laser hair removal, the expected results, their awesome laser (the Candela GentleMax Pro, which is a state-of-the-art FDA cleared laser for permanent hair removal) and their fantastic Unlimited Package. I said yes on the spot and went for my first treatment that same day.
It was a breeze and I was in and out in under 10 minutes (honestly probably closer to 6). There was minimal pain for the first 3 treatments, just felt like a rubber band snap and I loved the convenience of the locations, appointment times and those results were great too!
5 Things I wish I knew Before Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal has truly been something that has changed my life. I didn’t realize how freeing it would be to not shave or worry about shaving, but there was so much more that I was unaware of when I started this journey. I curated a list of 5 things I wish I knew before starting laser hair removal and wanted to share that with anyone considering treatments.
1. Results are Quick
After the consultation, I knew that the laser hair removal treatment wouldn’t be a quick process. It was going to take months and at that point, I wasn’t expecting to see any results until I was about 6 months in. 2 weeks! Within 2 weeks, I noticed there was markedly less hair growth and that the hair that was growing was much softer than before. As the treatments continue there is a lot less hair (probably like 80-85% gone) and each treatment I see a difference.
2. Cheaper in the long run
I shaved every dang day prior to laser hair removal. I was going through razors like a madman and because I have super sensitive skin, those cheap ones wouldn’t cut it. I have purchased fewer razors, less shaving cream and aloe vera (because razor rash) and I can only imagine that once I start treatments on my legs, that this will decrease even more. Professional permanent laser hair removal can be an investment up front but in the long run, I think it will actually be cheaper than a lifetime of shaving!
3. You Will Need Touch Ups
I mean this wasn’t the best news to hear initially, but it is a fact. Hormone changes and more can lead to your body activating those follicles to grow hair again and you will need to get touch ups periodically. Here is the great thing though, Milan Laser Hair Removal has an Unlimited Package! You pay one price and you get as many sessions as you need to become hair free. There are no touch up fees, no matter how long down the road or what the cause of the returned hair is.
4. It isn’t Pain Free
Treatments 1-3, walk in the park, pain level 1. Treatments 4 and 5, might have held my breath, reminded me of labor because I couldn’t talk through it and pain level 6. Each treatment you have, they increase the laser power. At the treatment prior they do test the strength of the laser increase on your skin to make sure that you do not have any reactions to it, but once they get going on the entire area, it comes with some pain. My mama always said that you have to suffer to be beautiful, so here I am and YES it is still worth it.
5. Your Skin Will Change
I think the thing that was most unexpected was the change in my skin. My underarm skin was so rough and constantly battled razor burn that I just got used to it. Fast forward to now and my underarm skin is so soft and supple. The hair that is growing (not much) is super soft too and I honestly think that my deodorant even works better. It is a welcome change for sure!
