Is This Thing On? -Last 6 Months with the Funks-

Sharing is caring!

I wrote the last post for this site 6 months ago (technically a bit more). I didn’t fall off the face of the planet, I didn’t mean to stop writing, I had zero intentions of not updating, but life man. Life really got me. I stopped posting blog posts and just worked to keep sharing on Instagram mainly.

I fell into a pretty rough depression and although I am working through this, I couldn’t manage to sit for even a moment and just write and share like I wanted to. At the beginning of 2023 (last year…eeek) I had wanted to do more posts, to write to share and to get back to the part I love about social media and this blog…memory making and keeping along with storytelling. However, 15 years of not truly coping with the passing of most of our family, 2 pregnancy losses, 2 fur babies crossing that rainbow bridge, trauma from sexual assault from my childhood, drug addiction and so much more really just caught up to me…nevermind the fact that I am a public school teacher…it has just been a lot.

I am absolutely working with an incredible therapist, which is helping, I started medication again and I am working towards being a better wife, mom, friend, teacher and person. So I inadvertently stepped back from this blog and although I am not 100% sure how consistent I will be with posting, I want to start and so I figured I would update all of you amazing folks on our life these last 6 months. Taking it back, old school blogging! Beware…there’s a ton of images!

December 2023

The last post was about our Holiday stay at Gaylord Rockies, but December was full of events and experiences like always. One of the biggest was my husband finally getting LASIK. We went through Cutarelli Vision here in Colorado and it was absolutely the best experience. I definitely have posts coming up on this. We also had a quaint Christmas that felt truly relaxing and much needed. Otherwise, December was just a blur of blog events and family time.

January

I had a great attitude heading into 2024 (honestly I still really do), and started to tackle some random projects around the house, like this storage closet and some other organizing. The rest of January was just readjusting to a new semester, working on my make up skills and attending some great blog events. The big highlight was Corteo which is one of my absolute favorite Cirque Du Soleil shows.

February

If January was slowish, February was nothing but. We started with Birthday (late) celebrations for my little sissy at Monster Jam and then getting matching tattoos. Then it was a wonderful date night at Breck Brewery with my forever valentine but things picked up wildly after that! I turn 40 this year and I looked at my husband in January and said “I need the ocean”, which turned into a wild week at Disney World with some amazing friends and then some time on the Disney Wish. We had never been to Disney World as a family so my husband and I were elated to share this experience with the kids for the first time. We ended up getting stuck on the Tower of Terror in the absolute dark as they communicated to each other “powering down tower” and we were all just a bit terrified…all ended well though and it was definitely a memory we won’t be soon forgetting. After 2 wild days in ALL FOUR parks, we jumped onto the Disney Cruise, bound for Castaway Cay and the Bahamas. So needed, but SO tired.

March

Fresh off a MUCH needed magical vacation, I proceeded to get VERY ill for about 3 weeks. Ended up taking 4 days off work which I NEVER do for being sick and basically just lived in bed fighting the flu. Which was inadvertently great because we bought the Purple Mattress and I really got to test that out (kidding). The month picked up with our Daughter’s 11th birthday (which is wild because I documented that little non-growing babies whole life right here and now she is 11)! I was also able to attend the National Science Teachers Association Convention here in Denver and it was incredible. Then we rounded the month off with our yearly Disney on Ice fun and of course Easter. One of my best friends said I can no longer post pictures of my teenagers with the Easter Bunny…last one…maybe.

April

April was the longest shortest month ever. I felt like it drug on, but at the same time, I look back and it was gone in a blink. We started the month by visiting one of our favorite family trips a few years ago at Table Mountain Inn. Truly loved hanging in Golden and even were able to watch the local colleges fireworks presentation. The husband and I were able to attend Trey Kennedy thanks to Live Nation and that little baby boy that started this whole blog, turned 14. I cried. I rounded the month out by attending a great event put on by Meta and learned a whole lot.

May

Almost there folks! May was greatly needed. My senior students finished classes and graduated and I celebrated by forcing my best friends and sister to go to Las Vegas, have fish eat our feet and see Justin Timberlake. We had a really great time overall and laughed a ton. When I returned, my teacher bestie and I were voluntold to complete a 30 year chemical inventory and well, that was the worst. On the weekends my husband and I started to get our yard ready for the summer and FINALLY our camper that has been at the paint shop for 6 months, started getting painted. But the best part…our kids (and me too) finished another year successfully, finishing 8th grade and 5th grade and tacking on some awards too.

It’s been busy, it’s been blessed, it’s been healing. Thank you for following, reading, interacting, supporting and loving us. You have watched these kids grow up, helped us raise them, offered advice and been the community we have cherished for so long. Hopefully there will be MUCH less time between updates!
