Things to Know Before Seeing Sonic
- Language: Sonic comes with a PG rating. There are a couple words that some may deem as curse words like “Crap”. Sonic is after all, your basic teenager, testing boundaries and learning how to be appropriate.
- Adult themes: Sonic as a game is a cult classic and I think naturally the movies appeal to the 80s and 90s crowds. The movie does have some minor adult themes and jokes, including a lot of alcohol references.
- GUN: One of the storylines focuses on an undercover agency called GUN. If you are looking to avoid movies that have these in them, you might want to keep this in mind.
Overall Thoughts and Review
I took 3 kids ages, 9, 11 and 15 to see the movie. We had seen the first Sonic so we knew it was going to be laughable and also that Knuckles and Tails would be joining the fun. Overall, we all liked the movie. I would say that personally I was a bit taken back from some of the adult themes that were presented but for my age range of kids, it was just fine.
The kids loved the storyline, the action and some of the jokes. I think that seeing Sonic as a typical kid, making messes, vegging out watching shows and being a prankster was fun for them. I did like the overall theme of the movie which came down to releasing grudges and taking care of each other. It was a cute movie and one I am sure my kids will be watching when it hits streaming services soon.
