Today we finished our Earth Week Theme Week. Some of the things we had hoped to do on specific days just didn’t work out, but in the end we had a great week with a lot of friends and family and fun and even more relaxation time!
If you are just joining in here is a recap of what we had hoped our Earth Week would entail.
Movie Monday was pretty laid back. We went to our swim lessons in the morning and then hung around, took naps, I did homework and then cooked dinner. Once we finished dinner we sat down as a family with some special snacks and popped in The Lorax. It was a wonderful end to a relaxing day.
In case you were wondering we enjoyed an Orange Slush and some Sweet & Salty Lorax Munch
Both items took less than 5 minutes to prepare and were great little snacks.

Movie Monday was great! I hope you try and enjoy these recipes with your own family.
Time off Tuesday was a bit hectic. My mom unfortunately had to do some wedding things and could not take the kids so luckily one of my best friends came over and helped me with them while I did homework. My son went to a friends house to play and the littlest miss spend the day watching TV, eating snacks, playing and napping. Everything worked out and I could not be more thankful for great friends.
Water Wednesday also did not go exactly as planned. The weather in Denver was gloomy and not very warm so a splash park was out of the question. However, we did go to swimming lessons and had a nice time and played just a little extra in the water. The rest of the day was spent playing board games and watching movies.
Travel Thursday was my favorite day! We went to the zoo with a really great friend and her daughters, and because the weather was still a bit overcast with a severe storm warning toward the end of the day, the weather was great and the animals were all very active. I could not believe how the Gorilla just sat right at the glass posing for pictures. We had a really nice time catching up with our friends, playing, eating ice cream and asking a lot of questions about the animals and learning.
Family Friday was very laid back and nothing that we had planned actually happened. I ended up having a lot of homework for my grad classes due so I spent the majority of the day trying to get that done and cleaning up around our house. The kids played like normal and we didn’t even leave the house. So because I really wanted my kids to do Random Acts of Kindness, we made sure to get out this morning and give back to our Earth and some of the inhabitants on it.
Some of the RAK’s that we did were:
- Picking up trash
- Leaving pennies for the pony rides
- Leaving quarters to Share a Coke with somebody
- Putting quarters in the gum ball machines
- Paying it forward in the Starbucks drive through
Where ever we left a RAK, we left this little note. You can download the printable here.
Our first summer theme week celebrating the Earth was great. My kids really did enjoy it and so did our pocket book. As I mentioned we are very budgeted right now due to my husbands furlough days. The entertainment for this week only cost a total of $20.00.
- Movie Monday: Ingredients (used coupons and sales), $9.00
- Tuesday: Staying home-Free
- Wednesday: Free
- Thursday: Zoo membership already paid for-Free
- Friday: $2.60 in RAK and then the rest in the pay it forward Starbucks drive through.
I hope that you join us this upcoming week for CREATURES week!
What do you think? Could your family have a semi-scheduled theme week pretty easily?
