Tuesday, the kids and I hopped in the car and took an hour long drive down south to catch the Despicable Me 3 advanced screening. Was it worth the hour drive. Yup!
We are big Despicable Me and Minions fans in this house. My kids even have a fart gun and it is played with daily. When I told my kids we were going to the movie, my son ran upstairs and put on his favorite minion shirt to wear. The Despicable Me movie series is one that we all love to enjoy together as a family and it always provides a ton of laughs. Those minions are a crack up y’all!
Ok, so, enough with our love of all things Despicable Me, lets get down to the review. First of all, the villain is a washed up child actor who is living in the 80’s and goes by the name of Balthazar Bratt. Personally, as a child of the 80’s I loved all the references and music they brought in. The neon colors, the shoulder pads, the amazing keytar weapon, and everything else that screams 80’s were woven into the movie seamlessly.
Gru, Edith, Margo, Agnes and Lucy all return along with our beloved minions and a new twist in Gru’s personal life. He has a twin brother and they are a pretty awkward and funny pairing together. My kids and I laughed a lot at the many scenes they did.
The minions are as innovative and funny as always. I think I am really starting to understand more of the mix of minion languages they use. I did have to explain to my kids what a tattoo gun was and let them know that they could not get tattoos just because they minions had them, but even that was all in good fun.
Overall, the movie was good. It was worth the drive for free tickets and time with my kids. However, it follows very similar storylines as the other movies and so you can guess how everything plays out. We will definitely be purchasing the movie when it comes out on DVD, however, I would not rush to the theaters to see it again.
It is a funny movie for sure and if you are a Despicable Me and Minion fan, I am sure you are already lining up a time to catch this in the theaters. Despicable Me 3 is in theaters everywhere now! Check it out and let me know what you think!
