In elementary school my teacher read us a lot of Roald Dahl books. James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator and of course, The BFG.
I will NOT give any spoilers away. I was impressed at how much of the book was followed in this movie. The special effects were fantastic and at one point I remember thinking, “so that is what Dahl was describing”. For me the book came to life and although it has been years since I read the book, I remember quite a lot about it.
Some of the movie was a bit too scary for our 3 year old. Scary is a terrible word. She was tired and had not had a nap. Although she usually does fantastic in movies, this one was not her favorite. Our 6 year old on the other hand, did not take his eyes off of the screen for one second. He was ooohing and ahhhing all over the place and he loved how the BFG had funny words. His favorite scene was with the queen while they were eating. There was A LOT of laughs to be had during this scene.
Overall, I would recommend the film. My husband who has never read the book, really liked the movie. He said the 3D features were great and I would agree. I would absolutely pay extra for the 3D show because it really was awesome and you felt so involved in the movie.
If you were following along with #TheBFGEvent you would have caught a glimpse at some of my favorite bloggers interviewing Steven Spielberg. This is a huge deal as it is his FIRST partnership with Disney. I love this insider photo of Spielberg working with his cast. He is such a hands on director. I cannot wait to read the blog interviews with him!
