My boy is 6 years old! SIX! I am trying to hold my tears back, but this week I have been spending more time soaking in these last years of childhood. I mean 6 years flew by and in 6 more he will be a preteen. I love celebrating birthdays with my kids. I love to throw fun themed parties because I know that in a few years these parties will be non-existent and instead filled with sleepovers and preteen stuff. So for now, I relish in the fun kid stuff, the parties. This year we went decided to go with a Super Mario themed swimming party and really have a good time.

Super Mario birthday party ideas – The Invitations:
The Super Mario Party Ideas collection is relatively limited in decor, but they had these great tablecloths at a fantastic price and of course the plates and napkins. I love the durability of these items and they always have better prices on these then if you purchased in a store. I also nearly purchased a Mario and Luigi costume for the husband and I to wear to carry the theme throughout the facility, but then I realized that it would be difficult to swim in a costume.
One of my favorite things about Oriental Trading is their enormous selection of party favors and candy bar items. I can always find items to go with our party theme that I know our guests will love and at a great price too. At our daughters Frozen themed party earlier this year, we did a DIY treat sack station and it was a hit, so of course I carried that idea into our Super Mario party and it was wonderful.
Super Mario birthday party ideas – Food & Refreshments:
Initially we were just going to have cake and ice cream with some drinks, however, the party just happened to be in a BLIZZARD where the Denver area received a few FEET of snow. We decided if people were going to brave the weather, we were going to feed them. So we quickly called up our local pizza place and placed an order.
We also bought some water because the kids would be swimming and needing to rehydrate from all of that fun! However, fruit punch is always great to have, so we decided to make some to share as well.
I do not think any of us anticipated the kids being starving after an hour of swimming, but they were, so I was extremely thankful that we decided on pizza that morning.
Super Mario birthday party ideas – The Cake:
My family loves Target cake and frosting and it just makes my life easier not to have to worry about baking. As always they did a fantastic job. The cake was enjoyed by everyone and although I completely forgot the candle, my mom was able to save the day so we could sing happy birthday to our guy!
