This month is National Pet Month and I would be amiss if I did not write a post dedicated to our sweet girls and the joy and mess they bring to our lives. I felt like sharing a little update on our pup and how we keep up on the constant messes she makes with the help of Libman. It has been a year of embracing life’s messes and honoring the joy!
Our Mess Maker
Last year when our beloved Mia passed away, we were sure we were done with puppies. The sleepless nights they bring, the constant messes, the chewing, the lovable puppy breath and everything that comes with them. We had our Lily girl and we were content. Then Brindle came along and she just fit. She just turned a year old a couple weeks ago and in true lab fashion, she is still very much that puppy, that enjoys a good chew toy, loves to eat and is fascinated with water.
With Brindle, comes messes. Massive messes. This girl is as eccentric as her markings and she will find any way to make a mess. She has chewed through our fence because she wanted to be friends with the neighbors dogs, she digs holes just to lay in them, she took over our kids little pool because she needed to lay in it and take a drink, she eats her food with her foot in the water bowl and then plunges her entire muzzle into the same water bowl to slurp up some water. She is the first to give you all the soaking wet kisses you ever needed and then grab her favorite toy and shove it into your face, while tracking wet (and often muddy) paw prints everywhere.
Our Solution
I think you get it. Having a puppy is work and requires constant supervision and clean up. We have had to make several adjustments to our household as we train our girl and ourselves. One of those adjustments is continuous mopping. With the amount of water this girl spreads around the house, we have to keep a mop handy to keep our floors from becoming filthy, massively slippery and dangerous.
I chose the easy to use, Libman Wonder Mop, and I keep the mop by our dog feeding station to get the majority of the water messes that she creates. In the evening I run a quick sink of water and a little Libman multi-surface floor cleaner and I mop up the high traction areas.
I love the Libman Wonder Mop because it is super easy to use, the built in power wringer removes a ton of water, which helps the floor dry quicker, it has microfiber GRIPSTRIPS™ to lift up to 20% more dirt and my favorite part is that the mop head is machine washable and easy to replace! I have been using a Libman mop since I moved into my own place at 18 and it has consistently been a fantastic mop to use.
Making It Routine
Of course, our girl has to be right there, because it involves water and she needs to be in the mix. She will chase the mop, bark, and excitedly “help” me mop up her little messes. It is part of our nightly routine with her and after we are done, she crawls right into her kennel to take a little relaxing chew toy break and then it is up to bed.
Our dogs keep us on our toes, but they are a bright light to every single day. We are so happy to celebrate National Pet Month with them and to embrace life’s everyday messes and clean up.
