When I was 20 I realized that I was having a hard time seeing the presentations in my college classes. Three years later, I found out I was diabetic and since then, I have had numerous eye exams and glasses. The last 3 exams I have had, I have went through Visionworks because I always have an awesome experience and now they have the coolest eye exam ever, that I have to share!
I was hoping to hold off until the first of the year before I needed a new eye exam and glasses, except there were 2 things making that difficult. First, I was starting to get migraines, which is always a signal that my prescription has changed and I need to get an exam and new glasses. Second, my dog ate my set of glasses that I keep at home (thanks to a 5 year old who was playing teacher with them) and then the kids hid my only other pair I had left that I was transporting between work and home.
Yes, in their toys! I keep a really clean home, so it was baffling to me that I could not find these, but clearly they blended in. In fact the messiest part of the house is this toy box and believe me, when I finally located them, I knew it was time for me to get new glasses. I made an appointment at Visionworks that week to have an eye exam and purchase new frames.
I have chosen to stay with Visionworks for several reasons. First, they take our prescription insurance. You just let them know you are using your benefits and they take it from there. Second, making appointments is simple and you can do it online. Honestly, I am all about convenience so this is important to me and they have many locations too! Next, there is always a deal going on and saving money is a must. Just head to their website and put in your zip code to see the offers in your area. Last, is the friendly service and frame selection. I never feel like just another customer there and that is probably what keeps us coming back over and over.
The Coolest Eye Exam!
After scheduling my appointment, I loaded up my kids and headed to the store. Check in was quick and since my information was already in the system, they were able to look back at my previous exams and know right where to start. We went through the typical puff test and vision screening before they took me into the exam room to meet with the optometrist.
My kids loved watching this entire eye exam and were totally in awe when we started to use the phoropter to hone in on my new prescription. Since I had my kids with me I decided not to dilate my eyes, which is something that diabetics really should have done to ensure that I am not facing diabetic retinopathy or other eye problems. The optometrist had a solution that involved ZERO dilation; optomap®! I immediately said yes and it was so cool!
They took me to a little machine where they were able to scan my retina’s and take incredible images! The optomap® digital retinal imaging system is able to capture large views of the retina (80%) compared to typical dilation (10-15%), and allows the doctor to see and detect even the earliest signs of disease. The images are crazy cool and you can see my eyes in the photos above. It was so easy and only took a few minutes of my time to make sure my eyes are in complete health. This was the coolest eye exam, with no pain and awesome results. You have to get it done!
Frames For All
After my exam was complete, I was able to pick out some new frames. I found out that my prescription has actually improved, which is why I was probably getting headaches. The last prescription was just a little too strong for me now. I told the technicians that I had a small head and needed to find glasses that would fit me and not look like I am drowning in frames.
I told them the colors that I like and they found some awesome frames that I am in love with. I also learned that I do not have to always purchase kid frames because they come in petite sizes now! I used the BOGO deal that I found and purchased 2 awesome pairs of glasses that have made a world of difference in just 1 short week of use.
After only 5 days, I was notified via text, email and a phone call (all options I set up) that my glasses were ready for pick up at Visionworks. The family and I made an evening of it after work and headed to pick up these beauties. The technicians sized them to my face and made sure I was happy with the fit. They also offered to clean my husbands glasses and adjust his fit too, which was graciously accepted. We just love their customer service and both of us walked out seeing better and feeling confident!
I picked out two awesome frames. These Vera Bradley blue floral frames are similar to my old frames in shape, which I know looks good on my face. I do not like nose pads and prefer a little fun flare to my frames so these were a top pick for me! Picking them up in store, I also saw that the frames and case match!
The other pair that I chose are these pink tortoise shell Guess frames. My last set of glasses were Guess frames and they were so comfortable that I definitely knew I wanted another set. They also have a little sparkle on the side which is totally me and they are super comfortable to wear.
I am seeing better, the headaches are gone, the cases are so vibrant that my kids won’t be able to hide them in plain sight and I am feeling confident. My experience with Visionworks was so positive and always is and it never breaks the bank. If you need an eye exam, get yourself to Visionworks and try out the optomap®, then grab some awesome frames and great deals!
