Taking a road trip to Texas as a family was an experience.  We stayed at the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday and we loved every second of it.  Read on to see why this is a must stay if you are traveling through Texas RV or not!

San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday

The minute my husband and I decided to take on our big Texas adventure in our new camper we knew exactly where we wanted to stay.  I went to KOA.com (there’s an app too) and searched for a campsite near the venues that we had on our list to visit. San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday popped up, we skimmed through some photos and we booked right then and there!

A few people asked me why we chose to stay at a KOA instead of a hotel.  Well, when I was 15 my parents took us on a 3 week road trip throughout the four corners area and we stayed in KOA’s the entire trip.  I have great memories of those campgrounds and those experiences and knew that I wanted that for my family.  It was also less expensive and after checking out the Go RVing website It was a no brainer to experience this together.

Side note: If you do not have a camper or you are not sure if this is for your family, the Go RVing website has a ton of information to help guide you through this awesome experience.

We also wanted to use our camper and we wanted someplace that was safe, built for families in mind and had all the amenities of a hotel, but the comfort of home.  It was an easy choice and one we are so glad we made.

We chose a deluxe patio site with the pull through and full hookups.  Our new camper had never been in a campground so it was time to test out all the features!  We were not disappointed.  Pulling into San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday was a breeze and hooking up was quick and easy.  Everything was clean and ready for us and having that nice deluxe patio was fantastic.  We really enjoyed sitting on the swing and taking in nature and watching our kids enjoy campground life.

All the sites in the campground were very nice and you can tell that the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday employees and owners take pride in their business.  They were constantly maintaining the space, making sure that everything was very clean and that their guests were happy.   We sure were and I highly encourage anyone looking to stay here, to make reservations and get there.  They have everything from RV sites, to tent camping and even cabins right on the water!

The campground is centrally located in San Antonio and was only about 15-30 minutes from any of the attractions you wanted to visit.  It is tucked away and when you are in the campground, you do not feel like you are surrounded by highways and the hustle and bustle of this large city.  It is so serene and beautiful and it was everything we were hoping for and more.

Amenities we LOVED

There was SO much that we loved about staying at the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday.  Our campsite was beautiful and perfect for us, but we also enjoyed exploring the grounds and checking out everything we could.  From a general store area, to laundry services, a playground and even restaurants and a pool; everything we needed and wanted was right there.

The office and store were awesome.  They had a mini pizza shop in there and the employees were so helpful and nice.  We had to do a load of laundry when we were there and I also had to print some tickets and both times the office staff, made helping me their number one priority.  The store is well stocked and very clean as well.

I LOVED that we were in a “gated” community space.  The campground is gated in and after hours you need a code to enter.  The little watch house there is staffed and I thought it was very accommodating when they called us on the day of arrival for our ETA and had an employee ready to escort us straight through the gates to our campsite.  Honestly, I never want to stay at another campground without this feature.  Made it easy to leave our campsite and feel comfortable that everything was being watched over.

Everything was within a very short walking distance.  It was very calming to just stroll around the campground and everywhere we looked, people were walking the trails, hanging out at the pond or just relaxing at their campsites.  One of the most beautiful areas of the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday was Alfred Pond.  It has a little dock and gazebo with sitting areas for people to enjoy nature.

We were so happy with our choice to stay at the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday and impressed with the amenities.  We did not get a chance to check out their restaurant, but we heard great things about the food.  They also have bikes for rent as well as a fenced in dog park that so many guests were utilizing.  It was such a wonderful community feel there and so relaxing.  I keep wishing I was back there, in the sweet rocking chairs, enjoying the views and watching our kids live their best lives.

Families First

Like I mentioned above, we wanted our kids to experience campground life.  We chose the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday in part because it had a lot of family friendly spaces.  We wanted our kids to play with other kids, to ride their bikes, to fish, and explore and to be safe doing all of that.  Immediately driving into the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday we saw their massive playground area.  Our kid made a beeline and spent EVERY evening there.

You can see how bit it is in the picture above, but this only shows ONE SIDE of their huge playground area.  The other side has some older but well maintained (they were repainting and freshening up the space while we were there) playground equipment with swings, climbing spaces and more.  Our kids LOVED the playground area and made lots and lots of friends there.

We specifically looked for a pool when booking.  Our kids are water babies and we knew that after full days of walking around and exploring different areas of the city, the kids (and parents) would want to cool off and relax in a nice pool.  The San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday did not disappoint.  Seriously, this pool was clean, they had pool toys available, plenty of seating and even some splash fountains to play in.

It took a lot of coaxing to get them out of the water in the evenings, but it was so wonderful seeing them in their element.  Not going to lie, this mom totally enjoyed pool time too.  It was nice to be so close to the store and office and there were even bathrooms right next to the pool with showers.

Our kids could not get enough of having the freedom to ride their bikes and explore the property.  I am not going to lie, I am a bit of a helicopter mom when it comes to safety.  I worked hard to give them a little more space here and I am so glad I did.  My kids were all about riding their bikes all around the campground, playing with friends at the playground and in campsites next to us and walking on the trail behind our camper finding little pecans and flowers and petting ALL THE DOGS.

One of the spaces that we just did not have time to spend more time at was the pond.  The pond is stocked and ready to be fished and you do not need a license to fish the pond.  There is also a little creek along the property line of the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday that you could fish and people were catching a lot! However, the evening that I did get a chance to head down to the pond was just breathtaking.  I sat down at the gazebo, breathing deeply and watching the ducks float, the fish jump and this incredible sunset.  It was everything this busy mom, teacher, wife and blogger needed to center my soul and be thankful for our opportunities.

When it came time to say goodbye, it is safe to say that NONE of us were ready to leave.  We had the experience of a lifetime, made great friends, incredible memories and are ready to go back.  I have nothing but good things to say about the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday campground.  It exceeded every expectation we had and is a must stop on our next trek through Texas.
