Our Honest Review
I have to admit. My daughter is the biggest Frozen fan and when we saw the first Frozen in theaters, I remember walking out of there thinking that I didn’t realize I was walking into a musical and not being fully in love with it. It took much more exposure before I realized that Frozen was really a good movie and that the music was pretty funny too.
I walked into Frozen 2 slightly biased and somewhat expecting to feel very similar to how it felt when I saw the first one and about 20 minutes into the movie those sentiments completely changed. Frozen 2 was magic. It was beautifully animated and the storyline was compelling. I laughed a lot, probably more than I was expecting to and in my opinion Olaf stole the show.
Overall, the movie was very good. I truly felt like Disney did a great job telling a story that we didn’t realize we needed to know and I valued the importance that they placed on our Earth and the our need to be aware of the impact we have. They also did a wonderful job working with actual indigenous people to capture the culture and tell a portion of the story of these Norwegian people that was really amazing.
I am a musical fan and knowing that Frozen is all about the music, I was sure that Frozen 2 was going to blow the roof off this movie. The music is ok. I wasn’t in love, I didn’t leave the theater singing and even now as I am typing this, I am playing the soundtrack trying to fall in love with it. I will say that “Into the Unknown” when it is sang by Panic at the Disco is actually a much better compilation, but the music for me was a let down. People will probably disagree with this, but I said what I said.
Go See It
I do highly recommend this movie. The music may not be everything I was hoping for, but the story, the animation, the fun new characters and the old ones that we love are just incredible. My kids adored this and wanted to watch it again…which yes, we will be going to the theater over the break to see it because it was that good.
