Today is my last day of summer break. This summer has been eventful and boring all in one. I think much of it has to do with my depression and the struggles we have been facing in our personal lives. We have been dealing with so much and it all culminated this past week.
While on our vacation in Mexico, our neighborhood got hit by a massive hail storm. Our roof, fence and house took a beating and so for the entire summer we have been working with contractors and insurance to get all of those items fixed. As I write this, the roofers are making some pretty awesome noise atop our roof. Stressful does not describe this experience.
To add to this, on Thursday we were driving home from swimming with our cousins and we had a little accident. I was on the main highway in Colorado and traffic came to a stop, so I stopped and the car behind me did not. She hit me at 55mph and although my truck does not look like it sustained a ton of damage, the impact was pretty hard and I have been fighting through the aches and pains. Her car was totaled.
The kids were in the car with me when the accident happened. It has been a bit of a nightmare because she was in a company vehicle with an out of state insurance company. I will need a rental car and new carseats all before I return to work tomorrow. I am not confident that will happen and am very frustrated with this process. Yesterday when I called to find out about our claim, they notified me that an adjuster had not been assigned and that they thought we were in a different state. I can see this is already going to be a rough experience.
On the upside, my sister and brother-in-law treated us to a night at the fair this past weekend. The kids had a great time riding the rides and eating this funnel cake. My sister is due with that baby any day now and we are all on pins and needles waiting for his arrival! You can see where her focus is though 🙂
My kids had never eaten a funnel cake before and this family sized one was perfect for their first experience. You can see that they both loved it!
The little one is just like her auntie and was licking every bit of powdered sugar off the box! So I guess all hope isn’t lost. In the end, our home and vehicle are fixable and the kids are happy, so that is all that matters.
