Sometimes the world just has a way of knowing exactly what you need. This time of year is hard for me. I am stretched thin working both my teaching job and my blog. Our schedules are jam packed with all the holiday must do’s and of course my kids are tired, so they definitely need to be ornery as all get out. Enter Your Santagram.
My kids have been asking what I want for Christmas. I think it is super cute, and I am giving them an easy gift to give me. The ability to listen and love. Easily attainable, except when everyone (including them) are feeling the holiday stresses. A little holiday video from Your Santagram is exactly what they needed to perk back up and keep mommy sane!I surprised them the other evening before bed as they were both just taking their sweet time getting ready and not really doing the best job listening. My thought was that if they saw the video, then we could have a little chat about behavior after.
They sat on the floor around my computer and started the video. Immediately their eyes lit up and the second that Santa said their names, they were completely enthralled. The look on my son’s face when Santa mentioned the EXACT items he had asked for was priceless.
Both kids could not take their eyes off the screen and were very excited to hear Santa ask them questions. They were actually responding to his questions quickly as they video was playing. When the video finished, my little girl looked at my and said, “Santa, said ‘baby care’, that is what I asked for, I have to be good!”
After the Santagram video finished, the kids and I sat on the couch for a couple minutes to talk about behaviors and I encouraged them to make sure that they always practice listening, trying hard and being nice. I told them Santa is watching, but that also that mommy and daddy are watching and that ultimately if they want to have nice things, go places and have privileges that these good behaviors need to become habit. When we finished, they jumped off the couch and both kids got right into bed. It was a really nice moment to reconnect and focus on our family as a whole.
