Butterfly Pavilion
This past weekend, our family took a short trip to our local entomology lab which is located in Westminster, Co and affectionately is called Butterfly Pavilion. We have been a few times as a family in the past, but it had been several years. We were invited on a tour to go behind the scenes and learn a bit about some of the cool community programs, insects and sustainability focuses that Butterfly Pavilion provides.
We started our tour with a little photo opportunity and then headed inside to meet our tour team. They told us a bit about their roles there and explained that they are preparing to move Butterfly Pavilion to a new, incredible facility that will be able to provide more education experiences and much more. The new facility will have 3 main biomes and community spaces to serve the organisms and community in an incredible service.
After checking out the mock ups of the future Butterfly Pavilion, we headed behind the scenes to learn more about the insects while also having an opportunity to get up close and personal with some adorable little guys.
Walking into the bug room is wild. There are hundreds of insect habitats, catered to each species needs. This includes their biome, their food, their habitat and space needs and more. Interns are busy making sure all the needs are met and the insects are happy and healthy.
As we walked through the bug room and learned about various insects, we were also able to interact with some of them and it was amazing. We were all fascinated with the incredible work and passion that Butterfly Pavilion puts in to provide exceptional care for these organisms while also educating people to look out for the little guys.
After checking out the bugs, we moved into the conservatory and began exploring the gorgeous butterflies. The conservatory is amazing. There are hundreds to thousands of butterflies active in the space. You can get up close and personal (without touching), be part of the butterfly release and even see the chrysallis of various species while enjoying the foliage and beauty of the space. Overall, we had the best time learning, playing and interacting.
3 Reasons to Visit Butterfly Pavilion
There are so many reasons that you should consider putting a visit to the Butterfly Pavilion on your Denver to do list!
