10 Years! Happy Anniversary to Us!

Sharing is caring!

Today marks 10 years married.  It may not seem like a lot to some people, but it is a big milestone for us.  These last 10 years have been some of the hardest years of our lives, but also some of the most rewarding.  I am honored to do life with this man.  To celebrate our anniversary, I wanted to take a trip back to the biggest party of the century…our wedding!

The Unexpected

If you could have something go wrong with a wedding, it probably happened at ours.  Broken groom, lost rings, missing wedding dress, the list goes on and on.  Yet, none of that mattered.  What mattered was that we were getting married and come hell or high water, nothing was stopping us.  I was ready to walk down the aisle in a robe just to marry him and I would do it again!

Our ceremony was as unique as we are.  We asked my dad’s best friend to perform the ceremony and it was awesome.  We laughed and had the best time up there.  I mean it could have been the copious amount of alcohol consumed before, but I totally felt like it was an awesome experience for everyone.

You’ll notice that my husband is wearing a brace on his shoulder here.  This is due to a massive accident that would change the course of our lives for years to come.  My husband fell head first off the top of a ladder about a month prior to our wedding.  He basically had his entire shoulder reconstructed and lost his job because of it.  Not exactly the way to start your newlywed year, but we made it!

The Entertainment

When most girls think of their weddings, they think of the color scheme, the location, the decor, the flowers, etc.  I wanted a party; A REALLY BIG PARTY!  We literally asked people to camp, spent more money on alcohol than anything and told people to bring their party.  They did and it was incredibly fun!

When our wedding is brought up, people consistently tell us that it was the most fun they have ever had at a wedding and that it was the best wedding ever.  The garter and bouquet tosses had people literally being thrown into the air and serious competition going.

Our first dance was a surprise performance (when those were not the norm) of the evolution of dance.  My husband has very little rhythm, but he went for it and it was amazing.  We are still waiting to see the video from that (HINT HINT BEST FRIEND).

Our wedding was amazing and full of love and support that started years before those nuptials.  We are so lucky to have found each other 17 years ago and to have made that agreement to fight through the unexpected and to enjoy the entertainment.  Here’s hoping we make it another 10!
