Recipe Walkthrough

For this recipe you will need melting chocolate wafers in white, yellow, red, blue, green & purple as well as pretzel rods, candy eyes and M&M’s.  My advice is to focus on one character at a time, but the process for each is pretty similar.

making chocolate covered pretzels

Melt the chocolate wafers, spread out the melted chocolate onto wax paper and then take a pretzel rod and roll about 2/3 of it in the chocolate to cover it.   You will then want to let the chocolate covered pretzel sticks cool and harden.  I do like to put mine in the freezer to speed this process up.

Once the rods are cooled and the chocolate is hardened on the pretzels, you can then melt the chocolate wafers that you will be using to pipe on the details.  You can use a piping bag to do this or just a sandwich baggie that you cut the corner off of.

Piping on melted chocolate

Read on to check out the details for each of the Toy Story characters and tips to make this easy peasy!

Jessie Pretzel Stick

When making the Jessie Pretzel stick you are going to cover the pretzel rod in white melted chocolate.  Then you are going to pipe on red chocolate in a swirl pattern.

One tip here is to make the hole in the red piping bag small so that you have more control over the size of the swirl.  Also I like to swirl in one direction and then switch directions to make it look more like Jessie.

Buzz Lightyear Pretzel Stick

Buzz Lightyear takes the most work out of all the pretzel sticks.  You will roll the Buzz pretzel sticks in white melted chocolate but only about 1/2 of the rod in this case.  Then you will begin piping on the green and purple stripes at the bottom of the white chocolate.

To add the M&M’s you can either, add them to the white melted chocolate before they are completely cooled and dry or you can add them after they are cooled by piping a small dot of melted chocolate and then placing the M&M.

Little Green Men Pretzel Stick

The Little Green Men pretzel stick has a lot of chocolate on it and my family usually eats these first!  First you roll the pretzel rod in melted blue chocolate about 2/3 covered.  Allow to cool and then roll about 1/2 the blue part of the rod in green.  It is super important that the blue layer is completely cooled and dry.

Just like with Buzz Lightyear, you can add the candy eyes on while the green is cooling or you could pipe on some small dots of chocolate to add the eyes after cooling.  For these I like putting the eyes on as the green is cooling.

Woody Pretzel Stick

Woody takes the most effort with piping, but looks super cute.  To make Woody, you are going to roll the pretzel rod in yellow chocolate covering about 2/3 of the pretzel.  Then you will prep your red melting chocolate in the piping bag.

Woody Pretzel Rods

Cute a small hole in the piping bag and then first pipe two straight vertical lines down the pretzel rod and then do several horizontal straight lines across the pretzel rod.
