True Value Fall Reunion
At the end of September, I was invited to check out the True Value Fall Reunion. This is an exclusive event for True Value owners and buyers to check out new products and purchase items for the upcoming seasons. It was an ENORMOUS event with so much to see and do. Tons of people were checking out the new True Value Color Center and learning all about the EasyCare line of paints, so I joined in.
Many people do not realize that True Value offers more than just your typical hardware store. Featuring everything you need to redo and update rooms in and outside of your home, True Value is THE PLACE to go for your paint supplies and more.
Many of you know that my son has allergies and asthma. We have spent countless hours and dollars purchasing home items that are allergy and asthma friendly so that our little guy can be comfortable and safe in our home. I am so familiar with the asthma and allergy certification logo that our home is full of products that are certified allergy and asthma friendly. When I spotted this logo on the EasyCare Ultra Premium paint, I knew my paint choices would be easy from here on out.
Earning the allergy and asthma certification is no simple task. In order to receive the mark, the product must go through a rigorous series of lab tests to prove that they help reduce exposure to allergens and irritants. EasyCare Ultra Premium Paint (in flat, eggshell and satin sheens) has passed these tests and is the only paint on the market to be certified. It minimizes those irritants and creates a healthier indoor environment, allowing for newly painted areas to be enjoyed sooner. Lower VOC’s, low odor, durability and smooth application, make EasyCare Ultra Premium paint the best on the marker in my opinion.
Peel ‘n Place Paint Chips
I have been slowly painting various parts of our home and redoing them over the last couple years. Next on my to-do list was the kids bathroom. It has been themed with Cars 2 since before our daughter was born. Although both my kids love the Cars theme, I wanted something a bit more unisex and I absolutely needed to get rid of the flat white that the builders put EVERYWHERE. I was undecided on a color and theme, but I was pretty sure I wanted a lighter green color.
With the help of the amazing True Value Color Experts, I was given these pamphlets of color inspiration. These are more than just your typical paint swatches. With both inspirational design photos and every shade you can imagine featured, you are sure to find the color that fits your room and theme perfectly. In addition, they also have corresponding paint chip ideas with coordinating and complementary colors that have already been tried and tested to look incredible.
I took these home that evening and immediately started to work out a design in my head. I was also very excited to try out the Peel ‘n Place paint chips. These are awesome; No tape, no random paint swatches on the wall, just peel ‘n stick the paint chips and let the color choose you. Okay, okay, obviously you will be choosing, but it is so much easier to choose when you see the color on the wall and it is not permanent just yet.
True Value Color Centers also have this nifty color matching machine that would be ideal for anyone that is trying to match a color perfectly. I had not picked out a theme just yet, but if I had already had towels and a color scheme, I would have definitely put this machine to use!
Sample Any Color
The little paint chips were super cool, but I definitely wanted to see a bigger paint swatch. I was elated to learn about SureSwatch and True Values exclusive sample any color box!
Simply pick out your desired color, allow the True Value employees to tint it for you in either eggshell, flat or satin and then take home your sample box complete with paint, a tray and roller, SureSwatch and over $60.00 in savings (including on full size paint!) The box basically pays for itself. It costs $7.00 and you get a coupon for $7.00 off your full size paint. Well worth it if you ask me!
I took my sample kit home and got to work. Before I did anything to our kids bathroom, I painted the SureSwatch with my EasyCare Ultra Premium Paint sample. The swatch has clear directions and was easy to paint. I painted it right atop the box.
Once completed, it easily peels and sticks to your wall for a nice 8×10 paint swatch that you can move and position anywhere. The photo below makes it difficult to see, but I was going for a lighter colored green. I liked that I could see the texture of the wall within the paint swatch and that the film was easy to remove when I was ready to paint.
You can also purchase extra SureSwatch films and colors to try out an array of choices. I was pretty set on my light green, so once I had it on the wall, I knew that was the color.
Painting Made Easy
I am not going to lie. I really enjoy painting. My sister does too and so we had a little painting party last week when my EasyCare Ultra Premium Paint in semi-gloss arrived. I grabbed my paint supplies from True Value, taped off the bathroom and we got to work.
I fully expected it to take 2 coats to paint the bathroom. After all, this was basically drywall and we all know how bad that sucks up the paint. Alas, it literally took 1 coat and this EasyCare Ultra Premium Paint and Primer in one proved its worth! The house was not smelly and the paint went on flawlessly.
I was very glad that the EasyCare Ultra Premium Paint was low VOC because this particular bathroom does not have ventilation (aside from the fan) and smelling paint for days was not ideal. In addition, my little asthmatic boy could not use his bathroom if the paint smell was strong. He was using this bathroom within a couple hours of it being done and we have not had a single flare up or need for the nebulizer.
I mentioned that the bathroom was done in Cars 2. My son had an obsession with the Cars movies when he was little so both the bathroom and his bedroom were decked out in all things Cars. However, this was before we had a little princess in our lives and although she also loves the Cars movies, I wanted to change up the bathroom and add in a theme that was more unisex. This is what it looked like before. BORING.
The kids picked out this woodland critter set from the store which went perfectly with the green that I picked out for the walls. I picked the green color to correspond with the countertops. I think the woodland theme turned out perfectly and is so cute. Both kids felt like they also had the opportunity to make it their own space, which I adored.
Since there is no natural light in the bathroom, It is hard to really get a feel for the awesome color I chose. I went with Fairmont in the EasyCare Ultra Premium paint which is a light shade of green and then painted the trim a bright white. The color is perfect and is not too light or too dark. Adding the white trim makes the color pop as well.
I also accessorized with some venetian bronze decor. I planned on changing out the towel racks to the dark venetian decor, unfortunately that will have to wait as the builders left us a massive hole behind the towel bar mounts to repair. Luckily, there is plenty of paint to fix this when my husband and I have a chance to repair the damage. We are not quite sure where to start since the hole goes through a 2×4 in the wall, but we will figure it out.
Overall the bathroom turned out wonderful. We are all so happy with how well it came together and the awesome ease of painting made possible by the EasyCare Ultra Premium Paint line. This paint has superior stain resistance and delivers long lasting color and is the absolute best fit for our family. You NEED to check out this line of paint and everything you need to complete your projects at True Value retailers nationwide.
