Nearly 2 years ago, a few students walked into my classroom, asked me to play the Hamilton soundtrack and I said no. However, it piqued my interest and so I listened to a portion of the soundtrack and at that point, I was more than intrigued. I started to become obsessed with the musical and I streamed the playlist online, on repeat for months. Then I discovered the mixtape and played that so much that my kids knew every single word to each song. So naturally when I found out that Hamilton was coming to Denver I did everything in my power to get tickets to see it!

I should probably also state at this point that I had found the bootleg video and watched it a couple times prior, so I knew exactly what to expect and the obsession for Hamilton was stronger after this. I had to do right by Lin Manuel Miranda and I had to pay for a ticket. I had to see this and when tickets went on sale, I sat in the queue for hours just watching and waiting and praying. I missed out on the main ticket sales. I was so sad. Thankfully, one of my friends sent me the ordering link when they were releasing single seat tickets and I managed to snag just one ticket. Life was made, bucket list item prepped and I actually teared up.

Friday night was my night. I had one ticket, I was going to the theater for the first time alone and although that made me a little nervous, I was completely ok with it. I showed up early, I purchased some merchandise and I refused to drink anything because I was going to remember every single snippet of this show and I found my seat.

When the show started and the first few chords hit, I actually started crying. It was a dream come true and for the next 2.5 hours I was enamored and so full of energy, and emotion. I had seen the performance with the original Broadway cast and the songs were running in my head with the original voices the entirety of the show, but it didn’t even matter. I was sure that I would fixate on the traveling cast and instead I found myself wrapped in the story and taking in every second for exactly what it was. Magic, history, beauty, talent. The bootleg was crap compared to being in the room where it happens. There was so much humor, the actors fed off the crowd (which btw was also full of energy and the actors let us know that at the curtain call), and I could not believe how incredible the details of everything from the costumes, to their voices, to the stage were.

These tickets are a hot commodity for a good reason and are worth the price (which honestly was not expensive compared to the Justin Timberlake tickets I have purchased). I could watch this again and again and again and never tire of the storyline. Lin Manuel Miranda wrote an incredible musical that has brought people from all strokes of life together, invigorated them with history, and left them wanting more. If you have a chance to see it, take it, you will not regret it.
