We have had our new little pup for just under 3 months. I want to preface this post by stating that she really is a smart and good dog. There are a few issues that we have been battling with her and all of them are affecting the overall cleanliness of my home, which is driving me crazy! Thankfully, I have found some solutions to combating that “new puppy lifestyle” and am sharing them with you today!
Brindle turns 5 months old on Sunday. She is all legs and is a clumsy, messy, playful, needy and bossy little girl. She is also such a joy for our family. She had been doing great with listening, potty training and not destroying the yard. That is until I returned to work and now we have a bit of a disaster on our hands.
Since returning to work, this pup needs extra love and snuggles. She is still such a baby. Our dogs have an indoor/outdoor dog run and during the work day, her and our other dog, Lily, spend their day in there together. When we come home, the pups eat, they go outside and then immediately Brindle jumps onto the furniture to snuggle with ANYONE who will have her. I mean who could turn down this little face?
We are now dealing with that new puppy smell all over our house and the messes that come with a new pup. I thought I would share some tips and experiences that we have had with my readers to help them keep their home smelling fresh, even with an adorable new animal! Here are some ways and awesome products that we are using to keep our home (and the pup) smelling amazing!
1. Bath Time!
Fabric will hold in an odor. If you can wash it, do it. We purchased high efficiency machines that do not use a ton of water. This means that we need to also make sure we are using detergents that are rated for high efficiency. When washing a load of laundry that is heavily covered in that doggy odor, I make sure to add Fresh Waves odor removing laundry booster. Just add it directly to the load of laundry and it works wonders. My towels, throw pillows, blankets and yes even the swimsuit I wore to bathe the dogs smells amazing!
3. Use an Odor Removing Spray
On fabric items, carpet or things that you do not want to wash every week, utilize an odor removing spray. you want to find one that is gentle on fabrics and that does not leave a residue. As you can tell we love our Fresh Wave and I keep a bottle of their odor removing spray on every level of our home.
4. Vacuum with an Odor Absorbing Packet!
This little trick has changed my life. Actually the people at Fresh Wave shared it with me and I had to try it. You drop an odor absorbing packet into your vacuum collection container and as you are vacuuming up the pet hair, dirt, dander and whatever else, instead of smelling that oh too familiar vacuum cleaner smell, you just smell a super fresh scent which diffuses throughout the area you are vacuuming!
5. Use Air Fresheners
One thing that I swear by is having air fresheners. The odor removing gel from Fresh Wave is my go to. I have these in my bathrooms, bedrooms, living room and every room in between.
These little tips have really helped me keep my home smelling wonderful and gives me peace of mind. Fresh Wave is a company that we trust and love because they use natural ingredients and are a safer choice for our family and our Earth. As a science teacher it is important to our family that we are using natural ingredients that are good for the Earth. Leaving less of a carbon footprint is important and one way that our family is choosing to live more sustainably.
We love our Fresh Wave products, we love that our home still smells fresh, comfortable and welcoming and that even with our new puppy and all the messes and accidents she brings, we are able to keep our house as we like it.
