Why Upside-Down Magic is a Must See

Upside-Down Magic Summary

Until last week, I had not heard what Upside-Down Magic was.  An email hit my inbox and I saw the word magic and figured that I would take a chance, because our daughter loves magic anything.  Upside Down Magic is a Disney Channel original movie that features a magical child named Nory, who discovers her transformative magic early on but has a hard time harnessing it.

Nory has a best friend named Reina who is also magical.  Both girls are sent to the prestigious magic school, Sage Academy to hone their budding powers.  After their placements, Reina is quickly identified as a honors flare and Nory is sent to UDM to essentially do busy work.  As the movie continues, Nory stays focused and causes a whole shift at Sage Academy with her positive and persistent attitude.

Why Upside-Down Magic is a Must See

I really liked this movie as a parent and our daughter is obsessed.  We have watched it a ton over the last week.  I think if you asked me and my daughter why we like the movie, you would get vastly different answers.  She likes the magic animals and the characters. I however, saw that the movie has a much bigger purpose and wanted to share why Upside-Down Magic is a must see.

Upside-Down Magic is a Must See

  1. Attitude Matters: My biggest takeaway was something that I tell my children all the time.  The way that you approach any situation and the attitude that you approach it with matters.  Keep a positive attitude, encourage others and put everything you have into seeing the situation through.  You may not have control of the ending, but you do have control of your reaction and ultimately that can influence everything and everyone around you.
  2. Differences Are Empowering: People by nature often struggle to be different, especially when they are younger.  They just want to fit in.  I have always told my kids to stand out, to stand up and to love the differences about them.  Differences are empowering and as we watch Nory with her Upside-Down Magic realize this and problem solve even with her different powers, you realize that embracing the different is empowering and that when EVERYONE comes together amazing things can be accomplished.
  3. Be a Loyal Friend: As a child I had a lot of “friends” that really just befriended me because we owned a roller skating rink, I learned early on how to read people and how important loyalty as a friend was.  However, most children do not have that and as a mom, I make sure to explain to my children how important it is to be loyal to their friends, to stand by them in the great times and in the tough times and to stand up for people when you see something that is wrong.

Upside-Down Magic Summary

I love the messaging of this movie and will watch it as many times as my family requests because you cannot beat the positivity and drive of Nory.  I will state that i did find out there is a book series and from what I understand the books are completely different from the movie, but the messaging is pretty similar and for a little girl that is still working on her reading skills, I think it is great to expose her to a powerful girl that wants only the best for everyone, even people that are not like her.
