We are eight weeks into school. It is midterms week and the exhaustion is real. I am thankful that even though my body resources are running low this week, that our natural resources are not. However, my reality is not the reality of many on this Earth. As I reflect on this first quarter of the semester, I wanted to come up with some fantastic ways for us help everyone out.
This morning when I got my kids out of bed, it was the first real fall day that Colorado has had this year. My kids and I were both just exhausted. I am in the midst of grading 180 essays, my son has conferences this week and the tiny peanut told me yesterday she was being naughty in class because she just wanted to sleep. Like I said, our resources are running low right now.
Thankfully, as our bodies are taking a hit, I have a little game plan to help us Emerge and see. Emerge restored. Emerge replenished. I teach 180 freshmen and sophomores in Biology every single day. I love my job, I love my school and I love science. My passion is environmental issues and this week my students are closing out our human impact section of the ecology unit. Everyone is exhausted.
It always amazes me that students struggle to understand that water is so valuable and that there are millions of people that do not have access to clean water. I tell them that some kids cannot even attend schools because getting water is more important that getting an education. I explain to them that while we are getting into the routines of being back to school, that other people are dying because they contracted a disease from polluted water.
My students tend to take these discussions to a place where they inquire about how they can help. To that, I decided to come up with some easy ideas to help people give back.
For every #40Pounds Challenge photo uploaded to Instagram, Emergen-C® will donate $5.00 to charity: water to help fun programs that bring clean, accessible water to communities in Ethiopia. All participants need to do is take a photo of them holding something that weighs around 40 pounds and upload it to Instagram using the hashtag #40Pounds and tagging @EmergenC.
